Pre-requisite: you need to have a Place already created on the system to be able to add Events. Please see our How to add/edit a Place on Widgety article if you do not yet have a Place on Widgety.
This article discusses:
Where to create an Event
To add in a single event, go to your Place page and click 'Create a New Event' in the navigation on the left hand side.
Fields available for an Event
After you have clicked on 'Create a new Event', you will the page to fill in with information about your event. Put as much content for the Event as you have into the boxes so that someone looking at it will have all the information they need.
Step 1 - Create your Event
This is where you will add the general information about Event, such as its name, and dates. The Publish at date and times is for when you want this Event to become available in Widgets.
It’s best not to put an Event running for longer than a few weeks - it will sit at the top of a Widget until it ends and people can get fed up with seeing it all the time. An event can’t have started in the past, so just put the current date if it started a few days ago.
Step 2 - Description
This is the bulk of the information about your Event. Provide a description and image in the Cover Photo field, and a video if you have one available. Make sure you provide an image that is the right size and shape - the ideal size is similar to a Facebook cover photo, but anything landscape will fit. Beware that the image may be cropped to fit in the Widget layout, so text may cropped in such instanced.
Don't forget the other 3 tabs available in this sections, as this is where you can put:
- Your ticketing information, such as pricing for the Event, and a URL (this could be the booking page if applicable).
- Any Social Media available for this Event, such as a Facebook page or Event, as well as a Twitter handle.
- Any Files that you might have that pertain to this Event. This could be a leaflet, a sign up sheet that needs to be sent back to you, anything, really.
Once you have filled up all this information, it's time to move on to tagging.
Step 3 - Tagging
The tagging field is where you can add information such as 'Seasonal', 'Weddings', or 'Children's Activity Event'. These add some information which will help people filter Widgets so they can find the type of Event they're looking for.
Please note that you cannot create new tags. This is to avoid having multiple versions of the same tags, which would clutter the search in the Widget. There is a chance that the tag available is available in a different wording than what you originally thought, so do try different versions if the tag you are looking for doesn't seem to be available.
If you really cannot find the tag you want, you can click on Suggest my tag for us to review it and see if we want to include it in our official list.
